Last weekend Stephanie called me and said, "I'm thinking about coming in town next weekend to help you get ready for No. 2. What do you think?"

Yes, please. Yes.

This morning she drove to Austin and we started knocking things off my to-do list.

  • We unpacked the crib bedding I'd ordered and made sure we liked it.
  • With Grandma's help, we moved all of No. 2's 0-6 month clothes from Larkin's room into her own room.
  • We cleaned and disinfected the infant carseat, and we took pictures of every step of disassembling it so we could put it back together correctly.
  • We cleaned and disinfected the Snap-n-Go and swing that have been collecting dust in the garage for the past 12 months.
  • We dug my framed Breakfast at Tiffany's poster out of the depths of the garage.
  • We ran No. 2-focused errands to Target (curtains), Babies R Us (bouncy seat and Diaper Champ) and Bed, Bath & Beyond (curtain rod).
  • Laundry, laundry, laundry.
  • And, as usual, we chatted and laughed the whole time.

Then she sent Matt and me on a date night while she took Larkin to dinner and the grocery store, gave her a bath, played and put her to bed.

It's weekends like this that make me so excited for Larkin to have a little sister. As a big sister, I know exactly what a special relationship that can be.
