First day of daycare

Larkin's first day of school photo:

In her bag are diapers, a change of clothes, 3 bottles of milk and the monthly information sheet that tells Larkin's teachers her general schedule, how much she eats and anything else they need to know.

When I walked Larkin into her school this morning, I got a little choked up. As thrilled as I am that she has consistent care, it felt strange to leave her with strangers. Still, I feel very comfortable with Mainspring Schools and I know they won't be strangers for long.

Miss Judy welcomed us to Larkin's class, the Sunflowers. She showed me Larkin's cubbie and I put her things away. Suddenly I felt like I was a little girl playing pretend, dropping off my baby doll daughter at her make-believe daycare. Weird.

I put Larkin in a bouncy chair so she could watch Miss Judy feed some of the other babies in their high chairs, and she was mellow as could be. Here's how she looked when I left:

All day long I was obsessed with thoughts of Larkin. What is she doing? Are they playing with her? Do they know how to help her stop crying? Will they figure out that she likes to practice standing? Will they do tummy time? Does she like them? Does she miss me?

Finally the end of the day came, and it was time to pick up Larkin. She was napping in her crib when I got there, and Miss Ellen gave me a recap of her day. She said Larkin was stimulated all day, looking around at all the babies and everything around her. I could picture her very alert and looking around with her eyebrows raised, just taking it all in.

Then before we left, my conversation with Miss Judy went something like this.

Miss Judy: I decided Larkin looks like my favorite singer.
Me: Oh, does she? Who's that?
Miss Judy: Barbra Streisand. I think she looks like Barbra Streisand.

For the record, I love Barbra, but...Babs? Really? Maybe Larkin has my nose after all.

As I was reading I thought that the punchline was going to be Barry Manilow.

When Larkin got home, did she mention that she's thinking of running for class President?

First of all, love the pink jumpsuit. It's a good pick for the first day of school. Second, I think she looks like Matt in this photo and definitely not Babs. I see no Babs...so I am a little concerned about this teacher. ;-)
