There is a young woman at my dad's office who is having a baby in a few months. I have never met my dad's colleague, but when Daddy told me she was a single mom without a lot of support, my heart went out to her immediately.
Daddy wondered whether we might have some baby things that Layne has outgrown or doesn't use anymore. Yes, we do! I love having a good reason to clean out the girls' closets and toy bins.
So this morning while we were playing, I started pulling out baby toys and clothes that Layne has outgrown.
Larkin asked what I was doing, and I told her that we were making a bag of clothes and toys for a new baby who doesn't have any clothes or toys yet.
She began bringing me toys to put in the giveaway bag.
When I selected things from the girls' bins and asked Larkin whether we could give them to the baby who doesn't have toys, most of the time she agreed.
Larkin's generosity warmed my heart. I had never seen her so giving.
I hope to instill in my girls the virtue of helping those less fortunate than us, and this was a good lesson.
The mother-to-be was most appreciative, gave me a hug and had tears in her eyes.
