Today I enrolled Layne to begin attending Mainspring Schools on Monday. She'll be the newest addition to the Sunflower classroom.

The lead teacher, Miss Judy, is the same as when Larkin was a Sunflower, so I feel very comfortable with the care she'll be receiving. The assistant teachers, Miss Melissa and Miss Eva, are very sweet and have cared for Larkin in the past as well.

Although the majority of her current classmates are 10, 11 and 12 months old, they will move up through the summer so by August Layne will be surrounded by other babies her age.

During the enrollment process, I had to fill out a couple of questionnaires about Layne's eating and sleeping habits, her temperament and schedule.

It was a good feeling to find myself answering the questions confidently. I realized that I have really gotten to know Layne over the past 11 weeks.

I think Layne will do well as a Sunflower. She is so good-natured and smiley, I think her teachers will love her. How could they not?

Monday is also a big day because it will be Larkin's first day as a Grasshopper.

Today she began her transition from the Dewdrop classroom to the Grasshopper classroom. She spent the morning with the Grasshoppers, all the way through lunch.

Tomorrow she will take her nap in the Grasshopper classroom, and the next day will be a bit more before she spends the entire day with the Grasshoppers on Friday.

Then Monday it's official - she's with the 2 year-olds.

I am not concerned at all about Larkin's transition. The Dewdrops and the Grasshoppers already spend a lot of time together. They eat breakfast and lunch at the same time (just at different tables), and they often are on the playground at the same time.

Also, some of her Grasshopper classmates are kids she's been with already in the Sunflower and Dewdrop classrooms, before they moved up.

However, she is very attached to her teacher Miss Jaime, so that might be hard on her. And, of course, she'll miss Andrew. But he'll probably join her in the Grasshopper classroom soon.
